Set yourself up for a smooth, successful experience—before we even begin.

Embarking on an interior design project—whether it’s a full-home furnishing or a major remodel—is exciting, but it can also feel a little overwhelming. At Grounded Homes, our job is to guide you through the process with clarity and ease. That starts with helping you get prepared before the work officially begins.

Here’s a simple checklist to help you feel confident and ready for what’s ahead:

1. Clarify Your Goals

Start by thinking about why you're investing in this project. Are you trying to create a home that feels more welcoming? Preparing for a growing family? Updating outdated spaces? Knowing your “why” helps us design with real purpose and intention.

Pro tip: Write down your top 3 priorities for the project—you’ll likely refer back to them often.

2. Understand Your Investment Range

Every project is different, and we’ll help you outline realistic budgets for everything from construction to furnishings. But having a general sense of what you’re comfortable spending—and where you're willing to splurge or save—sets the tone for aligned decisions from day one.

Not sure where to start? We’ll walk you through typical ranges during our initial conversation.

3. Gather Inspiration

(Even If It’s Messy)

You don’t need a perfectly curated Pinterest board, but collecting images of what you love (and don’t love!) gives us a great jumping-off point. Mood boards, favorite furniture pieces, even photos of places that feel right to you—these all help shape the vision.

4. Think About Timing

Do you have a specific deadline? (A baby on the way, a major life event, or holiday hosting goals?) Let us know. We’ll help you understand what’s realistic based on scope, lead times, and availability, and build a schedule that supports your life.

5. Prepare to Let Go (Just a Little)

We deeply value collaboration, but we also ask that you trust the process. The best results come when clients stay open, curious, and confident in the systems we’ve built to guide your project from concept to completion.

6. Make Space—Physically & Mentally

Depending on your project scope, you may need to clear out rooms, arrange temporary storage, or plan to be away during more disruptive phases. We’ll walk you through those logistics, but it’s helpful to plan ahead so the process feels as smooth as possible.

7. Communicate Openly

The more we know about your lifestyle, preferences, and pet peeves, the better. Don’t be afraid to share what’s on your mind, whether it’s a specific fabric you love or a hesitation about layout. Our job is to listen, interpret, and guide you toward the best solution.

The result? A thoughtful, tailored home—and a process that feels calm, clear, and collaborative.

Designing your home should feel good from the very start. With a little preparation and the right team, it absolutely can.
